position:- Livestock and Irrigation Value-Chains for Ethiopian Smallholders (LIVES) Project

The position: ILRI is recruiting a Database Manager and Analyst who will be based in Addis Ababa and be a member of the Livestock and Irrigation Value-Chains for Ethiopian Smallholders (LIVES) project in ILRI-Ethiopia.

General: ILRI works with partners worldwide to enhance the roles that livestock play in food security and poverty alleviation, principally in Africa and Asia. The outcomes of these research partnerships help people in developing countries keep their farm animals alive and productive, increase and sustain their livestock and farm productivity, find profitable markets for their animal products, and reduce the risk of livestock-related diseases.

The Livestock and Irrigation Value-Chains for Ethiopian Smallholders (LIVES) project is an initiative designed by ILRI, IWMI (the International Water Management Institute) and their Ethiopian partners to enhance income and gender equitable wealth creation for smallholders and other value chain actors through increased and sustained market offtake of high-value livestock and irrigated crop commodities. It will design and implement interventions to improve market orientation of semi-commercial farmers for enhanced competitiveness, sustainability and equity in value chains in four regions of Ethiopia.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Provides support as data manager in development, maintenance and enhancement of databases using Computer Aided Personal Interview (CAPI) for data collection in the field; Assists on socioeconomics surveys in training of Computer Aided Personal
Interview (CAPI) netbook system and supervision of enumerators and supervisors
in the field;
Provides skilled statistical/econometrics analysis of research data using advanced
statistical software programs/languages and database;
Assists in model development and calibration;
Performs quality control checks during the transfer of records from ‘work-inprogress’
to ‘finalized-version’ databases for work accomplished with emphasis
on relevance, comprehensiveness, conformity to established rules & standards;
Maintaining and extracting relevant records, selection of fields/variables to be
incorporated in statistical analysis, automating/querying (through programming) as
much of the data transformations as possible;
Provides guidance to graduate fellows on data management and analysis to
support how to manipulate their research data;
Uploads and manages research outputs on the project’s wiki;
Advising users in the operation of application software, computers and peripherals;
Assists LIVES Senior Scientists/Research Coordinator in different capacity building
trainings for research and development partners.

Minimum Requirements:
Education:
At least BSc degree in Information System, ComputerScience, Economics, Agricultural economics or closely related fields;

Experience:
• At least 5 years’ of relevant experience

Skills:
Excellent Capacity in using STATA and SPSS Basic training and certification and proficiency in appropriate PC use
Accuracy in data quality, good understanding of relevant administrative processes
Good Interpersonal skills
Good Communication skills
Good Understanding of networking (LAN and WAN)
Data Management and Analysis skills
Model development and calibration

Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Job level: 2D.
Monthly Base Salary: Birr 21,367 (Negotiabledepending on experience, skill and salary
history of the candidate)
